My Terms.

1. Think straight. Talk straight.

2. I am not a mathematical inference.

Me ≠ Σ(clickstream, searchterms, tags, demographics, psychographics, technographics) over Σ (ipaddress1, ipaddress2, … ipaddressn)+Σ(acquired third party data(axciom, choicepoint, claritas …))

… totally doesn't capture that I like orange juice …

3. You can classify or “segment” me if you want. Let me know how that works for you.

4. I am the expert on me (possibly also my wife) ... including my different personae. You may have an opinion. You may be right (see 3. above).

5. Don’t spill my beans.

6. If you want information from me, tell me what you are going to do with it. Clearly. No weasel words.

7. If you want me to tell you more about what you care about, I am more likely to tell you if you don't want personally identifiable information.

8. Don’t resort to “Co-Opting” techniques. Opt-in means Opt-in.

9. RESPECT.
